Patrick Sourek, from Germany, focusing on international elite exchange for more than 20 years, is captivated by Chinese culture. He was awarded the famous "Ningbo Camellia Award" for his outstanding contributions in Sino-German cooperation, as he founded the Chinese Summer School in Berlin and was dedicated to enhancing cultural exchanges between the two countries. Now, working as the global investment consultant of Hunan Province and the Deputy General Manager of Changsha Hengde Zurbrueggen Investment Co., Ltd, he focuses on promoting Sino-German cooperation and exchanges, including introducing German-funded enterprises, foreign-funded projects, international elites and trades to Hunan. In his eyes, Changsha is a place of treasure. He hopes that more Germans will know and understand the city and explore the endless vitality of Chinese market.

我有超过20年的中外经贸交流的经验，在中国许多城市都工作过，例如香港、宁波、上海。我一直想去湖南省，正巧我的一个朋友向我推荐了在长沙的工作。今年5月，我终于来到了湖南长沙，并成为了湖南省的招商顾问。
I have been doing business with China for over 20 years and have worked in various cities in China, including Hong Kong, Ningbo and Shanghai. A friend introduced a job in Changsha, where I had always wanted to visit. This May, I came here and was given the honour of an economic cooperator in Hunan.

How is life in Changsha?
我在长沙德国卓伯根(中国)总部工作，也住在这附近。我很喜欢生活在长沙，长沙不像上海或者北京这样的大城市，去哪都要花很长时间，人口密度又大，城市很拥挤。我爱吃辣，所以我很喜欢湖南的饮食，我也能在长沙吃到各地的美食，像上海菜、粤菜等等。公共交通也非常方便，我家门口就有地铁2号线，地铁出行很快捷。中国一直很吸引我，悠久的历史让中国的文字蕴含着丰厚的文化底蕴，我非常喜欢中国书法。在中国的生活让我感觉很有乐趣，我喜欢这里。
Now I work in Changsha Zurbrueggen (China) Headquarter and live nearby. Life in Changsha is easeful as it is unlike China’s big crowded cities as Shanghai or Beijing with high population density, and you don’t have to waste a lot of time on travelling. Spicy food is my taste, so Hunan cuisine is adorable to me. You can also enjoy other Chinese delicacies here, such as Cantonese and Shanghai food. The public transportation of the city is very developed and convenient. China has always fascinated me with its history and culture. Chinese calligraphy is what I’m interested in, which makes my life in China filled with fun.
我的工作主要是指导和引入德国中小型企业落地中国，许多德国企业有在华贸易的意向，也与中国建立了很好的联系。但是大部分人都只知道上海、北京、广州、深圳这些城市，并不了解湖南。现在我的职责就是向德国人推介长沙，让他们知道长沙这个宝藏地方。
I am mainly responsible for guiding and introducing German SMEs to China. Many German companies are interested in starting business cooperation and have established a good relationship with China. But a a lot of Germans only know Chinese cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Hunan is still relatively unfamiliar to them. Now my job is to promote Changsha, the treasure place, to Germans.
最喜欢长沙哪些地方？
What are the favorite places in Changsha?
我真的很喜欢待在开福区，尤其是开福寺。在寺庙里，我总是能找到一个静谧的角落，让我们可以享受这份宁静，思考人生。当然还有橘子洲头，非常热门的长沙景点，总有很多人来这里观赏青年毛泽东雕像，在岛上还可以欣赏到整个城市的美景。我认为长沙第三个特色景点是岳麓山旁的岳麓书院，这里真的是一个美妙的地方。首先，在这里你会被大自然包围，欣赏自然风光，也能看到城市美景。其次，对我来说，岳麓书院是一千多年前传承知识的地方，是人才的发源地，有着非常浓厚的文化底蕴。我也很喜欢去湘江边散步，河流碧波荡漾，两岸风景优美，这让我想起我家乡的莱茵河。
I really enjoy staying in Kaifu District, especially the Kaifu Temple, where I can always find a nice and peaceful corner and think about life. Then Orange Island of course, it is a tourist attraction in Changsha as so many people to appreciate the statue of Youthful Mao Zedong and the city riverside scenery here. The third highlight in the city for me is Yuelu Academy at the foot of the Yuelu Mountain. It's really a wonderful place, where you can be surrounded by the nature with the city view. Yuelu Academy, with abundant cultural tradition, is a place of knowledge inheritance for more a thousand of years and the origin of many Hunan elites. Walking along Xiangjiang River is also my favor, the waves and riverbanks will remind me of Rhine River in my hometown.
