Only 1.8 kilometers of water separates Xiamen from the Taiwan region's Kinmen at the nearest point. Besides aerial assaults, rival "frontier broadcasters" were set as part of psychological attacks. The world's largest military broadcast speaker still lies in the "three hero islands."
