“特朗普修墙，墨西哥买单”。这一口号在特朗普竞选集会上，可谓压场金句，足以媲美在《动物庄园》里，每当开会达到高潮，动物们齐声嘶鸣的"四条腿好，两条腿坏"（Four legs are good, two legs are bad）。
然而，特朗普多数支持者虽然偏执，但还不至于像奥威尔小说里面的动物们一般愚钝健忘，不少开始质疑特朗普的墙只是口头功夫罢了。就连给特朗普打过A+的知名保守派评论人士安·库尔特（Ann Coulter），都和他划清界限，批评特朗普的墙迟迟没有动静。最近库尔特接受《纽约时报》采访，再次表达对特朗普的失望。
刚刚生效的高达1.3万亿美金的国会预算案（spending bill），支撑联邦政府到今年10月份不停摆。特朗普此前曾试图用否决权（veto）威胁预算案的生效，但最后预算案并没有包含特朗普修墙想要的250亿美金。
纵然屡屡不得逞，特朗普的推特攻势依然猛烈，数年下来，修墙的推特已可修订成集。下面随机选了6条，最后一条关于中国长城的，属于神逻辑。
话又说回来，中国的长城真的起到了阻挡北方蛮夷的功能了吗？历史上的中国长城难道中间没有空隙？真的会像特朗普说的1600英里的墙，加上剩下的自然屏障，可以绵密到阻挡来自墨西哥的毒品、强奸犯和非法移民吗？让我们花4分半钟回顾一下中国长城。
本期面对共和党全国委员会主席罗娜·麦克丹尼尔（Ronna Romney McDaniel），与其说是对话，不如说是质问。作为2012年共和党总统提名人米特·罗姆尼（Mitt Romney）的侄女，罗娜被特朗普提名为共和党主席，可以说既合理又意外。
合理的是建立政治连接，选出数十年来共和党的首位女主席作为特朗普的女性代言人；然而罗姆尼本人此前对特朗普的公开谴责和表现出来的鄙夷，让人看到非铁板一块的美国政治，确实可以超越家庭的层面。本人并不想做墙能否实现的预测，但在21世纪的今天，“智者建桥，愚者建墙”大概不会有错。

[LAUGHS] So I like the idea of free speech, but President Trump used to tweet that the idea of building the wall is not a crazy idea, because China used to build one, and that predicts the low number of Mexicans in China. [LAUGHTER] As a Chinese international student, I thought it was a joke. But, he continued to tweet about the wall, and you also attach importance to the building of the wall. You urged in April, I think, that Congress should help President Trump push this agenda, or they would just lose seats. So my question is, to what extent is Mr. Trump's base really serious about the wall, and how can President Trump reconcile his promise about building the wall, and the fact that mere idea of the wall has posed a significant impediment to US leadership in the eyes of the world?
向杨：你好。[笑] 言论自由是个好东西，但特朗普总统总在推特上说，修一堵墙的想法并不是疯言疯语，因为中国之前就修过，瞧在中国就没有那么多墨西哥人 [笑] 身为一名来自中国的留学生，我觉得特朗普也许在开玩笑。但是，他孜孜不倦地发推文说建墙的事，而你也提到了“建墙的重要性”。我记得，你在四月时敦促道，国会应帮助特朗普总统推行他的修墙计划，不然他们就会丢掉席位。所以我的问题是，在多大程度上，支持特朗普的选民对修墙这件事是认真的？特朗普总统又如何能一方面既兑现修墙的承诺，另一方面又不让修墙的这一想法阻碍了美国在世界上的领导力呢？
MCDANIEL: Okay, that was a lot in one question, but what I will say is, yes, President Trump's base is supportive of building a wall and better border security. And I think that that's not—if you look at previous presidential candidates in our party, a lot of them advocated for building a wall and having a better border. And I think there are concerns about people crossing the borders illegally. We have legal immigration. That's a great thing in our country. We want that. But you have to have law. If you have laws, they should be followed. And if we can find deterrents—and I don't know what the wall's gonna look like—I don't have all the specifics on that—

MCANIEL: —if there's gonna be virtual elements or if there's—I don't know what all that's gonna be, if it's more law enforcement. We'll see what happens. But we do have an issue and border crossings are down under President Trump, but you can't have… —why have borders then? I mean, if people can just cross illegally, then why even have borders? So either you have them and enforce your borders, or you don't. And I think a lot of—I know that President Trump's base wants to see legal immigration done correctly, and then have our borders enforced. Thank you.
麦克丹妮尔：会不会有虚拟的元素在里头或是会不会有——我不太清楚最后会是什么样，是否加强执法力度之类 。我们还要看会发生什么。不过非法越境的确是一个问题，而且特朗普总统任职期间非法越境的人数下降了，但是——边境的出发点是什么呢？我是说，如果人们总是能非法越过边境，那划定边境还有何意义？所以，要么设立边境然后加强边控，要么干脆就不要边境。我认为很多的——我想特朗普总统的选民想看到的是按照法律接纳合法的移民，然后加强边控。谢谢你的提问。
